Although he earned recognition both in England and France and held the dual appointment of engraver to both George II of England and Louis XV of France, Bowen died in poverty, nearly blind.

Atlas Minimus (1758, J. Gibsonnal)
Atlas Minimus (1774)
Universal History of World (1766).
